Did You Notice Baltimore's Next Upcoming Artist JerMari?

A couple of weeks ago, I held my first interview with an upcoming artist hailing from the Baltimore area. The twenty-two year old JerMari arrived at my messy apartment and found a seat in my cluttered living room. We sparked up a blunt that I pre-rolled for us and caught up about his time away at school, North Carolina A&T, as well as other things … Continue reading Did You Notice Baltimore's Next Upcoming Artist JerMari?

Orange Line $hawty | Meet Bucky Malone

If you haven’t noticed, summer is over. A lot of sites, including TDT, concluded the season by listing our favorite songs of the summer. One standout throughout the DMV was Bucky Malone’s “Wi$hlist.” The Virginia native’s song lusting over YezJulz, Keke Palmer, and others became a favorite in the DMV and one of the standout tracks from his “Orange Line $hawty project” released this July. I … Continue reading Orange Line $hawty | Meet Bucky Malone

Too Much To Think About | Meet Kiddartha

Breaking away from Tribal Stress, Kiddartha decided to release his debut solo project “Too Much To Think About.” The Baltimore-based collective has seen success this year due in part to group hits like “Natural.” Kiddartha decided to take the solo route for a project in a tell-all confessional. The project title literally speaks for itself; there’s too much to think about, so Kiddartha decided to … Continue reading Too Much To Think About | Meet Kiddartha

Scum Forever | Meet ZachkarySkeeM

I had the privilege of sitting down with Zachkary, the founder of Scumbag Boyz, this summer and interview him.  I learned about Zachk, life growing up in Bowie, his passions, his vision for rapping in the future, and facing his biggest competition – himself.  Rapping isn’t what Zachk expects in life…it’s his pathway to completing his goals.  Life is more than rapping to Zachk, as … Continue reading Scum Forever | Meet ZachkarySkeeM

Take Dat, Take Dat | Meet Big Penny

It goes without saying that life’s experiences, from times of joy to those of hardship, are what shape an artist’s development and their product. For 21-year-old Derrin Johnson, he has more than enough to build his debut project “When It Reigns.” Growing up, Johnson, known as Big Penny, says he was always a fan of music and had a love for creative writing as well. … Continue reading Take Dat, Take Dat | Meet Big Penny

Fuck A Runner, Run It Up | Meet Tribal Stress

“When we make tracks together, it’s like making magic,” says K.Ocaine of Tribal Stress. The five group members that make up the Baltimore collective would ironically turn a congregation of strangers at Five Guys into some of the smoothest songs like “Natural!” “I needed a group of people to vent to and I felt like other people needed it to, so why not put it … Continue reading Fuck A Runner, Run It Up | Meet Tribal Stress

For the Love of the Game (Meet score|swayze)

One of the best parts of my job is hearing stories. At The Demo Tape we get Soundcloud links, twitter links, Youtube links etc. 24/7, but when we get to actually talk to the artist about what inspired the music that’s when this job is the most exciting. It’s one thing to hear a song but it’s another to understand the trials and tribulations that went into making that song possible. This is why I feel like my conversation with score|swayze was such an interesting peak into his artistry.

A little over a week ago Swayze dropped LOVE! A Documentary. The 11 track project plays out like a feature film with the intro and outro appropriately titled “Opening Credits” and “Closing Credits” respectively. Taking a cue from Martin Scorsese, Score Swayze has created a score for his life’s journey. Continue reading “For the Love of the Game (Meet score|swayze)”
