Tory Lanez For Dummies

Tory Lanez is best known for his ongoing beef with Drake. However, he should be recognized more so for his quality music. Lanez is the leader of the “New Toronto,” which many believe is shade to his fellow Canadian. Drake has paved the way for young Toronto artists, like Lanez to step into the spotlight and create avenues for themselves. Thanks to his hard work and consistency, Lanez is leaving quite the impression on the music industry after going unnoticed on the mainstream level for years. He made his way onto the hip-hop scene in 2009 and since then, he’s released 15 mixtapes and a studio album, I Told You, which dropped in August. Lanez is now one of the hottest artists in the game and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Let’s take a look at some of the highlights of Tory Lanez’ career thus far.

“On The Set” (2013)

This is one of Tory’s most underrated collaborations of his entire career. Everything fell into place here, as he and YG complemented one another perfectly. “On The Set” is just one of the standouts, as he has bangers with other big name artists, most notably Meek Mill.

“Know What’s Up” feat Kirko Bangz (2013)

One of the most popular cuts from Tory’s Conflicts of My Soul mixtape, “Know What’s Up” features a fire appearance from Houston’s Kirko Bangz. Both artists are best known for their smooth control over tracks and their collaboration did not disappoint.

“Driver” (2013)

Here’s another one of the top tracks off Conflicts of My Soul. The Roscoe Dash-assisted song helped to prove that Lanez was legit and well on his way to being something special.

“The Mission” (2014)

At this point, Lanez is still building his portfolio, and this wasn’t a bad addition. He dropped the Lost Cause project in 2014 and this was one of the first singles released from the tape.

“Teyana” (2014)

This was pretty cool. On this one, Tory professed his love for Teyana Taylor. Too bad, she’s taken by (Desiigner look-alike) Cleveland Cavaliers guard Iman Shumpert.

“Say It” (2015)

The previous songs got Tory Lanez to the door. “Say It” kicked it down. It went platinum and peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track sampled Brownstone hit “If You Love Me.”

“Traphouse” (2015)

Lanez continued to build on the momentum created by “Say It,” releasing a mixtape entitled The New Toronto. “Traphouse” is one of the lead singles from the project. When you watch the visuals for this track, you can see how far Tory has actually come.

“August 19th” (2016)

We are accustomed to hearing all the singing and autotune from Lanez, but this track is one of the rare occasions where he was actually spitting. And it sounds good too.

“Controlla” (2016)

People have criticized Tory for biting styles and such, but he used Drake’s hit single and took it to another level. His style is perfect for that beat and he murdered it.

“LUV” (2016)

Finally, this is the peak of Tory Lanez’ career thus far. “LUV,” which sampled the classic song “Everyone Falls In Love,” peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. This track, along with “Say It,” has turned Lanez into a bonafide star.
