Bae Brackets Round 1 – Matchup #29: Lena James v. Raven Baxter

As the first round of the Bae Brackets winds down, we’re looking forward to the second round matchups and eyeing who could make a deep run to the finals. One of those candidates could possibly be “A Different World”‘s own Lena James, played by Jada Pinkett-Smith for seasons five and six of the TV sitcom in the early 90s.

Her psychic matchup, Raven Symone as Raven Baxter of “That’s So Raven” poses somewhat of a threat, but was ultimately overmatched during our roundtable discussion.

“You know why I’m here” – Golden State Warriors

2) San Antonio Spurs (14-3)

Ranking Last Week: 2(0) | Record Last Week: 4-0

Besides the Warriors, they’re playing better ball than anybody in the league right now and LaMarcus Aldridge hasn’t even fully adjusted in San Antonio yet. They’re rolling in midseason form early.

3) Cleveland Cavaliers (13-4)

Ranking Last Week: 3 (0) | Record Last Week: 3-1

We keep forgetting that a team without their All-Star point guard is currently on pace to win 62 games this season; that’s a testament to the greatness that is LeBron James.

4) Indiana Pacers (11-5)

Ranking Last Week: 4 (+1) | Record Last Week: 3-0

Remember that one time Paul George was a top-3 player in the league before he got injured? I mean…

NFL Week 12 Predictions

WEEK 11 W-L: JUSTICE: 12-2     BDJ: 11-3     DEVIN: 8-6     LC STOKES: 9-5             WAN G: 7-7     JORDAN: 6-8

THANKSGIVING GAMES: JUSTICE 2-1     BDJ: 2-1     DEVIN: 2-1     LC STOKES: 1-2     WAN G: 2-1     JORDAN: 2-1

OVERALL W-L: JUSTICE: 103-59     BDJ: 86-76    DEVIN: 81-66     LC STOKES: 66-49     WAN G: 82-51     JORDAN: 31-27

Buffalo Bills (5-5) v. Kansas City Chiefs (5-5)

Justice: This will be a good game, but I have to go with the Chiefs at home. They have been dominating teams lately and are putting themselves in position for a playoff spot after losing Jamaal Charles earlier this season. Chiefs

BDJ: I’m going with the Chiefs and it’s not a tough decision. They have been dominating teams for the last month despite injuries and a rocky start. Every year we see teams that just seem to get hot at the right time, KC is just the latest version. Chiefs

Devin: Ever since Jamaal Charles got hurt, they have been finding other ways to win. I’m going with the Chiefs. Chiefs

Stokes: Why have the Chiefs looked so nice these last couple of weeks b. Bills are going to have to take back-to-back Ls like Meek. Chiefs

Wan: Bills about to clap these fools. #BillsNation. Bills

Jordan: The Kansas City Chiefs have looked very good their last couple of games and I think Andy Reid has this team hitting a bit of a stride at just the right time. I’m taking the Chiefs at home in Arrowhead over the Bills in this one. Chiefs

St. Louis Rams (4-6) v. Cincinnati Bengals (8-2)

Justice: The Bengals played the Cardinals tough last week. I think this defense will have a much easier time this week keying in on the playmakers of the Rams compared to the problems the Cardinals gave them. I think they get back on track this week. Bengals

BDJ: The Rams have been too inconsistent on offense for me to feel confident in them. It’s crazy that a team that looked so promising at one point is now just mediocre. Without consistent QB play their offense will remain stagnant making them an easy dub for the Bengals. Bengals

Devin: I cannot see the Bengals losing three in a row. Bengals

Stokes: Bengals lost two in a tow and proved what I said; they are overrated. I never said they were trash though, so they win this one against a struggling Rams team. Bengals

Wan: The Bengals will bounce back this week. Bengals

Jordan: The Bengals have dropped two games in a row after beginning the season on an unbeaten run and this week they face the Rams who just lost to the Ravens. Cincinnati is my pick here as they look to end their losing skid. Bengals

New Orleans Saints (4-6) v. Houston Texans (5-5)

Justice: The Texans have been impressive in recent weeks and might even be able to sneak into the playoffs. With the way their defense has been playing, I think they get the dub here. Texans

BDJ: How does Rob Ryan keep getting jobs? JaMarcus Russell could strap up and put up numbers on his defense at this point. Texans get it done. Texans

Devin: Houston’s defense has been A1 lately. I’m going with J.J. Watt and them. Texans

LC: Drew Brees stunt on them haters. Saints

Wan: WHO DAT! Brandin Cooks rey cook this secondary.  Saints

Jordan: The Saints have been very on and off this season and the Texans seem to have possibly found their identity under Bill O’Brien. I’m picking Houston to beat New Orleans here. Texans

Ranking Everything on Your Plate This Thanksgiving

I’ve seen a lot of debates over what foods are good and which ones are trash so I decided to throw my thoughts out there.

19. Salad

Nah, uh uh. Keep salad away from my plate. I’m fine with salad almost any other day of the year, but when I’m eating on Thanksgiving my last thought is being healthy.

18. Duck

Some things are just uncessantly to me. You already have turkey and ham so is it really that crucial to have duck too? Duck isn’t even popping like that tbh.

17. Asparagus

Trash! Onto the next one.

16. String Beans

String bears are fire but they’re also a vegetable and now is not the time for vegetables to shine.

15. Baked Beans

Baked beans are cool but they’re nothing special. They’re solid. Never heard anyone excited to have baked beans…that might happen somewhere I guess.

14. Baked Apples

Only apples we acknowledge are the ones in the pie. Probably with ice cream and some caramel too.

13. Cranberry Sauce

Similar to stuffing (more on that below) cranberry sauce can either be really good or very bad. Canned cranberry sauce is gross but homemade cranberry sauce with crushed cranberries and lots of sugar is greatness.
12. Corn

Corn suffers from an effect that plagues a couple of foods on this list. You can have corn at any time of the year so once it’s on your plate for Thanksgiving it’s not as crucial. Corn is very solid but, it’s not a heavy hitter.

11. Chicken

I didn’t even know people eat chicken at Thanksgiving, but I’m sure it’d be cool. As a college student I eat chicken 300 times a week so I can’t rate it higher than foods I’m only getting once or twice a year.

There has been NFL on Thanksgiving Thursday for nearly a century now, dating back to 1920. With that being said, us here at The Demo Tape offer up our takes on each game and wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving from everyone here at TDT.

Kicks & Coffee (10/24) | The Death of Reebok Basketball

Washington Wizards v Detroit Pistons

After the split between Washington Wizards point guard John Wall and Reebok in January of 2013, it became quite apparent that the British footwear company’s goal was to separate itself from their competitors.

Reebok signed Wall after he entered the NBA Draft out of the University of Kentucky when he was selected with the first overall pick in 2010. The company made three signature shoes for one of the NBAs brightest starts before the two parties split; leading to Reebok’s parent company, Adidas, heading Wall’s signature shoe line.

Joining a roster already consisting of All-Stars Derrick Rose and Dwight Howard, who is now the with Chinese-based sportswear company Peak, Wall added another big name to the Adidas roster, but may have also signaled the end of an era in Reebok basketball.

Bae Brackets Round 1 – Matchup #28: Carmen Lopez v. Tori Vega

Masiela Lusha played Carmen Lopez on the Emmy Award-winning TV sitcom “George Lopez” for six season from 2002 to 2007. The only daughter of the Lopez family, she was thought of somewhat of an “airhead” due to her poor decision-making and judgement skills. However, she always displayed a kind heart. This kind heart was often taken advantage of by the boys she decided to date, as she often fell for the jock-type that only liked her for her looks.

Her matchup for this round, Victora Justice, played Tori Vega on the Dan Schneider-created Nickelodeon series “Victorious”. Justice portrayed the teenage, aspiring singer for four seasons from 2010 to 2013. As a student at the fictional Hollywood Arts, a performing arts high school, Justice portrays Vega as she attempts to make her way through high school encountering typical problems of a high schooler, some more odd than others, at the performing arts school.

Warriors just falling behind by 20 for fun now to make things interesting.

2) San Antonio Spurs (10-3)

Ranking Last Week: 3 (+1)| Record Last Week: 3-1

Wanna see something scary? Go look at Kawhi Leonard’s numbers by season so far. Then, go look at his birthday; he’s only 24 doing this.

3) Cleveland Cavaliers (10-3)

Ranking Last Week: 2 (-1)| Record Last Week: 2-1

We keep forgetting that LeBron has this Cavs team playing at this level without their All-Star point guard.

4) Chicago Bulls (8-4)

Ranking Last Week: 8 (+4)| Record Last Week: 2-1

Jimmy Butler can’t do it all by himself. If this team wants to advance in the playoffs, Derrick Rose is going to have to elevate his play to All-Star level.

5) Indiana Pacers (8-5)

Ranking Last Week: 5 (0)| Record Last Week: 2-1

This Pacers team is surprising everybody with their play this season. Thank god for modern medicine allowing us to see Paul George pick up even better than where he left off with career-highs so far this season in points, rebounds, and assists.

Bae Brackets Round 1 – Matchup #27: Dionne Davenport v. Maya Wilkes

In this matchup of the Bae Brackets, we have Stacey Dash for her role as Dionne Davenport in the movie, and later on the TV sitcom spin-off,  “Clueless” matched up against Golden Brooks as her role in “Girlfrineds” as Maya Wilkes.

Dash played Davenport in the full-length movie and during all three seasons of the spin-off’s time on television. Dionne was the fashionable, best friend of Cher Horowitz, another one of the main characters in the sitcom.

Maya Wilkes, portrayed by Golden Brooks, was a self-made businesswoman and author on the TV sitcom series “Gilrfriends” for eight seasons. At one point, the show was the longest running live-action sitcom on network television and one of the most popular of its time. The show would later be spun off into “The Game”.

Survivor Series Preview & Predictions

survivor series.png

Tonight the Phillips Arena host in Atlanta will play host to WWE Survivor Series. The card was drastically reshuffled after the now former WWE champion Seth Rollins went down with an injury during the main event of a house show two weeks ago. With the championship vacated we will see a new champion crowned tonight as the culmination of a multiweek tournament. Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan, and the aforementioned Rollins are all absent from television for the forseeable future so, without their usual main eventers WWE has the opportunity to pass the torch to a new star tonight. Switching from new to old, WWE has also been promoting the 25th anniversary of The Undertaker’s debut. Taker debuted at Survivor Series 1990 as the mystery tag partner of “The Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase. Tonight we get the pleasure of seeing Taker in action again, who knows how many more matches we’ll get from The Deadman. Continue reading “Survivor Series Preview & Predictions”
